Current Scientific Theories
Theories based on modern approaches to physiology describe the relationship between the
stimulation of acupuncture points and responses of the autonomic nervous system and the
hormonal system. There is also interesting work that shows the connection between external
body structures, and the internal organs of the body, particularly as a human being develops
and grows.
Chinese Philosophy
The traditional chinese approach is an application of a philosophy
that recognises the dynamic balance of all aspects of life and nature.
The famous Yin-Yang symbol represents the interplay of seeming opposites.
For instance we can see that in our illness there is the seed of good health -
holding out the possibility of our recovery.
Acupuncture helps to nourish that seed.
Synthesis
In simple terms, we all know that pressing rubbing or moving our bodies in a reflexive way can make us feel more relaxed,
remove a pain or relieve a headache, acupuncture is a more accurate and far-reaching extension of this.
There are a range of scientific models for how acupuncture can effect health, in addition to the well-established
principles grounded in centuries of effective practice in the orient.
To be listened to deeply - body and mind, feelings and emotions.
